After witnessing one of his fellow campmates end his life, Blake decides he must escape. While trying to flee, he plummets head-first into a river, and quickly loses any will to fight for his survival. When Blake wakes, it is in a different world. A world devoid of color, filled with lost souls, and ruled by an evil Queen who draws strength from the hatred of the living. The contempt his parents hold for his sexuality, the desire the counselors at the camp have for fixing his problem—this is what fuels the Queen’s magic. After stumbling onto a group of survivors, and nearly losing his life, Blake learns this world is filled with souls of people who ended their lives to escape the pain they felt in the real world. Everyone in this purgatory arrived because they harbored insecurities about their gender or orientation. The Queen keeps them trapped, refusing to let them find peace. Blake and the other survivors do all they can to escape her wrath, for if she finds them, she’ll strip them of their sanity and free will, turning them into mindless puppets wandering this world.Blake learns that he has a chance to return home, but in order to do so he needs to assist the others from ending up as drones in the Queen’s army. He must also overcome his own fears of the living world. If he can’t come to grips with who he is, then Blake may very well end up losing everything that makes him who he is.
